DESIGNED AND HANDCRAFTED IN VIETNAM
Vietnam has been renowned for porcelain craftsmanship since the 15th century. The northern regions, in particular, are home to family-run workshops where this traditional art has been passed down for generations. The fine and flexible clay of this region gives our ceramics their distinctive quality, ensuring a unique texture and exceptional durability.
SLIP CASTING – THE FIRST STEP TO PERFECTION
High-quality kaolin clay, a blend of minerals and water, is poured into handcrafted plaster moulds. The plaster absorbs moisture, allowing the minerals to settle and form the ceramic’s shape. The excess material is then removed, and once the clay has dried slightly, the mould is carefully opened, revealing the first form of each Tinkalu piece.
HAND-REFINED AND PREPARED FOR FIRING
Once removed from the mould, each ceramic piece is carefully shaped, smoothed, and refined by hand. Every item is meticulously finished before being fired for the first time, ensuring that each piece maintains its unique artisan character.
TWO FIRING STAGES FOR SUPERIOR QUALITY
After the initial firing, each ceramic item undergoes a thorough inspection, cleaning, and refinement. Before the second firing, the interior is glazed, and the signature Tinkalu branding is applied, giving each piece its distinct identity. This process enhances durability, making our ceramics heat-resistant and dishwasher-safe, ideal for everyday use.
WOMEN AT THE HEART OF PRODUCTION
Around 90% of the artisans in our production facilities are women – a fact we take immense pride in. The tradition of porcelain craftsmanship not only holds deep cultural significance but also provides valuable employment opportunities and financial independence for women in Vietnam.
