Plates for a Beautifully Set Table
Which plates do you need for a beautifully laid table?
Because we always eat with our eyes first, it's worth investing in an elegant dinner service. Food tastes twice as good when it's served on stylish tableware with aesthetic design.
Where do crockery, cutlery and glasses go on a beautifully laid table?
At first glance, it may seem confusing, but if you look at the principle more closely, it is really quite simple. We will help you with the question:
How do I set the table correctly?
The classic way of setting the table begins with a plate. The plate determines the seating and is not used for eating. On the plate, you place the dinner plate and on this, the salad plate for the appetiser or the soup bowl.
The bread plate is placed to the left of the other plates.
When arranging the cutlery, knives go on the right, forks on the left, starting from the outside and working inwards. Dessert forks and spoons go above the plates, with the spoon on top and the handle pointing to the right and the fork underneath with the handle pointing to the left.
The glasses are placed on the right above the knives, in the order of water glass, white wine glass, red wine glass.

Is porcelain the best material for plates?
Porcelain is the most common material used for plates. It is robust, does not chip at the slightest impact, is acid-resistant and can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher. Firing at high temperatures makes porcelain ovenproof, so it can be used for oven-baked and gratin dishes.
